The predictive validity of the state part of the school-leaving exam and the entrance exam to the Faculty of Education, Charles University

This dissertation deals with the predictive validity of the state part of the school-leaving exam and the entrance exam to the Faculty of Education, Charles University. Its purpose is to find what influence these exams have on academic performance, with the criteria being the grade point average for each year of the bachelor program, cumulative grade point average and the state final examination grade. The data set consists of students admitted for academic years 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 in the following fields: Czech language, English language and Special education. The dissertation includes also a review study giving an overview of the research on the predictive validity conducted in the Czech republic and other countries. The empirical part provides the description and comparison of the individual data sets, including results from school-leaving exam and the entrance exam, as well as university grades. As for the school-leaving exams, students pass most succesfully the English exam. When focusing on the field of study, the most successful students are those of the English language, while students of Special education have the worst grades. This diploma thesis deals with speaking skills and their development for the purposes of the Maturita exam. It is divided into 6 chapters. The theoretical part deals with speaking as a skill, basic definitions of the Maturita exam and, more specifically, it gives a detailed overview and comparison of the Maturita oral performance and interactive skills at both levels. The practical part covers the analysis of three sets of books that are used during the English lessons in secondary education. Problematic Types of Tasks in the Listening Comprehension Part of the Didactic Test of the State Secondary School-leaving Examination in French Language

The topic of this thesis are problematic types of test items in the listening sub test of the didactic test of common part of Maturita school - leaving exam in French language. Introductory chapter of the theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the description of Maturita school-leaving exam, its origin and contemporary model. The following chapters deal with characteristics of the didactic test, its parts and individual test items. These chapters also provide a description of the examined sample, concise characteristics of grammar schools (Gymnasiums) where the research was conducted, and introduces the analytical tools which were used when examining the listening subtest in French language. On the basis of students' answers the most difficult test items of the sub test were pinpointed. Test anxiety in perspective of the graduation exam

The subject of this thesis is test anxiety in Czech secondary school students in perspective of the graduation exam and its influence over their overall academic performance in this exam. Results of a study conducted in the academic year 2017/2018 among 439 graduating secondary school students in six secondary schools in Prague is presented The aim of the study was to verify a test anxiety model based on Lazarus's transactional model of stress, Ellis's cognitive A-B-C model and other subsequent models of different authors (e.g. Hodapp and Rost). The model used in this study thus approaches test anxiety as a form of a stress reaction that consists of three successive steps: (A) activating event in the form of a test situation, (B) cognitive appraisal, and (C) emotional and behavioral consequences part of which is the academic performance. Both steps B and C further consist of a variety of unique components and outcomes. Quantitative data collected with the utilization of an extensive test battery of eight self- evaluating tests, an anamnestic questionnaire and exam results allowed for a further statistical elaboration. Evaluation of school leaving exam in foreign languages regarding the needs of students with learning disabilities

The bachelor's thesis deals with essential knowledge concerning learning disabilities, focusing mainly on reading disorder and disorder of written expression. It covers information about history and contemporary form of school leaving exam, including its modification for students with special needs. The thesis deals in detail with issues connected with maturita exam in foreign languages taken by the students with specific learning disabilities. A questionnaire was used as an exploratory method in the practical part. The questionnaire was intended for teachers of grammar schools, vocational schools and training institutions, who are certified evaluators of writing and speaking with the update for evaluation of SPU-O category. Most of the teachers think that the needs of students with learning disabilities are respected in school leaving exam. However, many of them were not able to review the objectivity of rating. It is necessary to raise awareness of specific learning disabilities not only among general public but also among educators. Education through the Geography in Curricular Reformation Period of Czech Education System: Reflection of the Changes at Selected Prague's Grammar Schools

The thesis, as the title suggests, focuses on education of Geography and analysis of Geography as a subject at Prague grammar schools. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the impact of curricular changes on teaching Geography. Furthermore, the thesis is to analyze the ideas of the Geography teachers on teaching methods and content taught to students in their lessons. The work also evaluates the variety of opinions of the pedagogues concerning this topic. It also discusses their different views on a new form of the state leaving exam. Moreover, it looks for the answer whether the new exam might change the methodology of Geography. This work is mainly based on a critical evaluation of expert materials as far as the school reform is concerned. The empirical part itself consists of the survey results and the assessment of directed interviews with 11 respondents, who are the Geography teachers at nine Prague grammar schools.
Secondary school pupils' mistakes when solving school leaving examination problems with a low success rate

The thesis focuses on problems from the mathematical didactic test, which represents an exam in mathematics in the common part of the school leaving examination. The aim of the work is to identify problems that were solved with low success, explain possible difficulties and propose recommendations, the implementation of which in teaching or training pupils could contribute to their better readiness for similar types of problems in the leaving exam. An analysis of the success in solving the problems of didactic tests is performed based on available anonymized data and the problems with the lowest success rates in solving the spring terms of the leaving exam in 2017-2020 are identified. Several problems are selected for research in this work. First, based on didactic analysis the possible reasons for low success in solving the selected problems are presented. Furthermore, research is carried out. A test is compiled from selected problems and it is presented for solution and optional commenting to respondents from high school. Their solutions are then evaluated and analyzed in detail and discussed with respect to previously formulated expectations. Czech female students at high schools and universities at the turn of the 19th and 20th century: Case studies Honzák's sisters

The thesis is on female education at the turn of 19th and 20th century in the Czech kingdom. It researches the situation of female students at the Czech secondary schools and Czech universities at that time. The life story of sisters Honzák's is used as an example to describe the situation in detail. The thesis deals with their status at the society, their family background, their colleagues and teachers'attitude and the approach of Ministry of Cult and education. As the resources there are personal letters, school records and their own memories. The resource derives from both archive and periodicals which were interested in progress in female education. The topic of female higher education is taken in general at the beginning, the first chapters are concerned with history od female education and school laws and the first female grammar school Minerva which is an inseparable part of the history and takes an important part in my thesis, then i tis followed by students'memories. The first female students had to overcome lots of obstacles to get the same university degree as male students. Their rewarding experience and memories give us a possibility to realize how much effort they had to make to become equal members of an university.
